I have normal hair which are fine and naturally almost straight. I have long hair and hence the ends tend to tangle easily also my hair are frizzy for 2 days after wash. So for me hair-serum is must have as part of my hair care routine. I do not use heat to as much extent as possible. But in colder weather I do like to dry/blow-dry my hair to avoid catching cold. Drying/blow-drying or any kind of heat-treatment does make hair a bit drier even if you use heat-protectant. What can be better if you find a product which serves both purposes as a heat-protector and a serum. Presenting you L’oreal Professionnel Primrose Oil Liss Unlimited Shine Perfecting Blow-Dry Oil (quite mouthful! let’s call it L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose oil).

My Experience with L’oreal Professionnel Primrose Oil Liss Unlimited Shine Perfecting Blow-Dry Oil:
Liss Unlimited range of L’oreal Professionel is “smooth and control” range. It is meant for dry unruly hair and it provides frizz control and smooth effect. L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose oil is advertised to be used as serum oil and it claims to provide heat protection and smooth effect to hair. Let’s dive into details. This is same product which used to come as evening primrose oil.
Packaging:
Packaging of Liss unlimited range is one of my favorties from Loreal professional range. Beautiful purple color looks soothing to eyes. Primrose oil comes in a same purple colored transparent bottle with pump dispenser on it. You can control the amount of product you want to dispense. Pump has a lock mechanism on it which comes handy while travelling. However i still like to keep it in ziplock bag to be safe from accidental unlocking. Never faced that issue though.
Consistency & Smell:
L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose oil has consistency of a bit runny serum. The serum is not very thick not very runny. It has smooth silicony feeling and spreads easily on hair. Loreal liss ultime primrose has mild floral scent.
Application:
Major mistake I have noticed that people do with this product is using too much quantity. I have seen people complaining it being too greasy or like hair-oil that is because you are using too much product. I have also noticed that If you apply a little extra quantity then hair gets oily and flat soon specially if you have fine hair. This issue with most of the serums.
I apply L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose oil on my towel-dried hair and then detangle using my fingers or wide tooth comb. I divide my mid-waist length hair in half and then take one pump of product for each side of my hair and apply it on length and ends of the hair. Then whatever is leftover on palm I apply it on hair on crown. If I feel the need to apply more then again take half a pump and apply it on ends. Then I either blow-dry my hair or let it air-dry.
Performance:
L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose oil can be used on wet and dry hair both. It takes 2-3 minutes to get absorbed into hair and then you can detangle it using fingers or wide-tooth comb or go ahead and blow-dry it. It makes the hair detangle easily and hair feel soft to touch. If I let my hair air-dry, they dry less frizzy and look fuller. In past I used whole liss unlimited range together and results were even better.
L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose shine perfecting blow-dry oil like the name suggests, adds shine to hair and provides heat protection. I have noticed that my hair feel the same if I apply this oil or use a good heat protactant before blow-drying, infact with this oil hair feels shinier, smoother and lighter. I do prefer this over normal heat protectant specially for blow-drying. Also it eliminates the need to use 2 separate products serum and heat-protector and does the job of both which is great for fine hair. Since use of too many products can weigh down the hair and make them look more flat. It never weighs down my hair and does not make them greasy. I love the healthier effect it gives to hair.
Final verdict: 4.5/5
I love L’oreal Professionnel Primrose Oil Liss Unlimited Shine Perfecting Blow-Dry Oil because it does what it claims. It is not just a serum, it does the job of serum plus heat-protector which is what I love about it. If you apply this and let your hair air-dry the frizz control is not as great as techniart serum. If you apply it on dry hair, it tames the remaining frizz. So If you have too dry and rebellious hair or you always let your hair air-dry and you are looking for just a hair serum, then Loreal techniart can be better option for you. But if you are someone who uses hair dryer often, then L’oreal Liss Unlimited Primrose oil is good option for you. Be careful with the quantity you use. A very little product is enough and you can add more later if needed. This bottle lasted me whole year and now I’m bored of it. This is second time I finished the bottle and I will repurchase it in future as well.
Only thing I want to point out that if you are in India, better get the product from reputed salon or nykaa, since in India I have seen there are counterfeit products doing rounds in market.
